PUR-bookbinding glue

PUR-glue is a bookbinders glue that works in 2 steps. The initial phase is like the hot melts, where the adhesion is made by the cooling of the glue. This phase, however, doesn't give a strong bond. This only happens in step 2. Here a chemical bond is made between the paper and the glue. This bond takes time. Ideally this bonding requires about 72 hours. But actually after 6 hours "rest" the bond is already very strong.

The strength and the speed of the bond is influenced by:
- Air humidity
- Temperature
- Resting time, the time between the binding and the first time the book is opened.

PUR-glues are only used on industrial machines that are adapted for the use of this type of glue. PUR-bookbinding glue have an expiration date once the glue is exposed to air.
